How to Avoid a Google Penalty on Your Affiliate Sites

avoid a Google penalty

In this article, we’ll discuss how to avoid a Google penalty. Google penalties are not something to take lightly. They can have a significant impact on your website traffic and rankings. Therefore, you should always be aware of what might cause a Google penalty, how to avoid them and how to recover from them if they happen.

What is the Google Penalty and How to Identify it?

The Google penalty is a term that refers to the sudden and significant fall in rankings on Google search engine results pages (SERPS) for a website. It is also known as the “Google slap” and can be triggered when Google’s algorithm deems your content to be irrelevant or of low quality. Google penalties can be devastating for any business.

Penalties Can Be Devastating

They can lead to a loss of revenue and a drop in traffic. This is why it is so important to fix these penalties as soon as possible. In this article, we will explore how to avoid a Google penalty and get back on track with your business. Google penalties are a real issue for many webmasters, especially if they have been penalized for a long time. This article will provide some information about what Google penalties are and how to remove them.

Is a Google Penalty Permanent?

Permanent removal of Google penalties is possible, but it can be difficult. There are different ways to fix the penalty and you need to know the cause of the penalty in order to find the best solution. The Google penalty can be difficult to identify, but there are some telltale signs that it has been imposed on your site. One of the most common symptoms of this type of penalty is an unexplained drop in traffic from search engines, including Bing and Yahoo!. Other signs include:

  • A sudden drop in rankings for all keywords across multiple pages
  • Pages that were previously ranking high suddenly ranked lower

Why Do Websites Get Penalized?

There are various reasons why you may get penalized by Google, and it is crucial to know the most prevalent ones to avoid them. Below, you will find a list of steps, a checklist if you will, that I take when I create my sites to avoid any sort of Google review or slap. I’ve yet to have one of my own sites penalized. Some of these things below will be explained in more detail later in this report.

List of Common Reasons

  1. Make sure Whois privacy is turned ON when registering a domain name.
  2. Use Piwik instead of Google Analytics and stay away from Webmaster tools.
  3. Make sure to have a privacy policy and a compensation disclosure statement on your sites.
  4. Always diversify your site’s IP addresses. Never put Adsense and affiliate sites on the same IP addresses and always use a separate IP for larger authority sites.
  5. Never add affiliate and Adsense ads on the same site. Use one or the other.
  6. Do not interlink your sites that are on the same IP address. Meaning, don’t link from one of your sites to another of your sites if it’s on the same IP. This is a big no. Your sites start to look like link farms in Google’s eyes.
  7. Make sure there are no footers or text that can connect your sites. (Don’t put things like “designed by ….” or your company name on your site. Footprints are bad.
  8. Keep the use of in-your-face-type advertisements to a minimum. (Pop-unders and other things like that are a no-no. I don’t use Pop-ups on my sites either, but I’ve not seen any real evidence to suggest they hurt your rankings.)
  9. Don’t plaster your site with Adsense ad blocks or affiliate links.
  10. Make sure your content is of good quality. If you’re not adding value to your niche, then you’re not a site Google wants to rank highly. (If you read your content and you don’t learn anything, why would anyone else?).

Always, always ask yourself if your site is adding value to your community, to your niche, and even to the Internet in general. If the answer is no, start again. Google is becoming ever more sophisticated in weeding out sites that add no value.

Can You Recover from a Google Penalty?

If your site has been penalized by Google, don’t panic. There are some steps that you can take to get your site back in the good graces of the search engine giant.

  1. Ask yourself why your site was penalized.
  2. Clean up your site and remove any issues that may have led to the penalty.
  3. Make sure that you are following Google’s webmaster guidelines.
  4. Check for any technical errors on your website and fix them right away.

Conclusion

Google has a strict policy about what it considers to be quality content. If you violate these policies, Google will penalize your website. But that is not the end of the world. There are steps to recovering from a Google penalty. These include fixing Google TOS violations and providing high-quality content.
